1998 Isuzu Hombre
The Isuzu Hombre comes back in 1998 still wearing the same body as the GM twin
pickups, the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC Sonoma. Although it has the same design and
was actually manufactured from the same factory where the GM twins were manufactured,
the Isuzu Hombre still comes less equipped compared to the comprehensive line
of equipments standard on the twins.
For 1998, however, Isuzu Hombre borrowed some more of the equipments originally
present only on the two GM pickups. The 1998 Isuzu Hombre comes in three basic
trims: S, XS, and XS Spacecab (extended cab). It was once only equipped with the
2WD system but for 1998, the 4WD system becomes available for the S and XS Spacecab
trims. The 2WD models are equipped with the 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine that now
produces 110 hp of power, dropping 10 hp from the previous year's 120 hp production.
The 4WD models, on the other hand, are equipped with a 4.3 liter V6 engine that
produces 180 hp. A similar V6 engine that outputs 175 hp of power also comes as
option for the XS Spacecab 2WD. Standard transmission for all trims is the 5-speed
manual shift while a 4-speed automatic is optional except for the S 2WD trim.
As it borrowed the 4WD system of the GM pickups, it carries with it more new additional
features both on the interior and exterior. A redesigned dashboard and a passenger-side
airbag were added to its list of standard interior and safety features for 1998.
Other optional interior features for the Isuzu Hombre include an air conditioning
system, cruise control, tachometer and a cassette/CD player. Standard safety features
also include driver airbags, antilock brakes, 4-wheel disc brakes (4WD models
only) and optional power windows and door locks.
