1997 Isuzu Hombre
The Hombre is offered in two body styles and two trim levels: The regular cab
in S and XS trim, and the extended Spacecab in XS trim only. There are two engine
choices: Standard is a 2.2- liter ohv four-cylinder, rated at 118 horsepower and
130 lb.-ft. of torque, which only comes with a five-speed manual transmission.

The optional 4.3-liter ohv V6 rated at 175 bhp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque is available
only on the Spacecab with a four-speed automatic transmission. The Hombre is offered
in a small model range with a modest selection of equipment packages. The range
grows in 1997 with the introduction of the Space cab extended-cab model, which
can be had with the powerful GM V6 and more amenities. A Space cab (extended cab)
body style joined the Hombre lineup, as did a V6 engine choice with availability
of a 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual overdrive. Only the 4-cylinder
engine and manual shift remained available for regular-cab models. The Spacecab
body came with two rear jump seats that folded out from the sides of the cab and
is offered only in the XS price level.
A new Power Package included power windows, locks and mirrors, while a new Convenience
Package comes with a tilt steering column and cruise control. Both of those options
were offered only with the V6 Space cab. Not the fanciest, nor the most powerful,
nor the most loaded with options, the 1997 Hombre Isuzu offers honest truck hauling
at an affordable price.
